Searches | Example |
Organism name | Streptococcus sanguinis or Escherichia coli K-12 MG1655. For > 4000 prokaryotic strains with complete genomes only. |
Gene locus | SSA_0001 or BSU24850. For genes with KEGG annotations only. |
KEGG_Ortholog (KO#) | K00001 or K14983. For genes with KEGG annotation only. |
Gene name | dnaK or purL. For gene names with KEGG annotation only. |
Notes | |
Essentiality scores | Two types of scores based on either experiments (E_score) or prediction (P_score). Genes with higher scores are more likly to be essential. The threshold for essential genes is E_score >0.6 and P_score 0.03.
Note: If a paralog, isozyme or conditionally essential gene is present, a predicted essential gene with a high score may NOT be successfully deleted in a single gene knockout experiment. |
Database | The database includes only prokaryotic strains with complete genomes and genes with KEGG annotations. |
Missed KO# | Any genes without KO#s (including experimentally identified essential genes) will be absent in the database. |
RNA genes | The rRNA and tRNA genes should typically be essential. The rRNA and tRNA genes have lower scores because less experimental data has been collected for them and many of them have multiple copies. |
